Greetings in Good Health!
As the opening of Aegle Wellness Center at The City Club on December 2 fast approaches, let me introduce you to the rest of our medical staff, including yours truly of course. Finding dedicated physicians passionately committed to making the world a healthier place one patient at a time so to speak was not easy. The conventional training in medical schools produces doctors who focus on symptoms rather than the underlying condition, on illness rather than health. If we have well-baby clinics for the paediatric age group, why not the same for the adult population? Today the more dynamic clinical practitioners have been using their specializations to treat the whole human system and focus on preventive, and even predictive, medicine to heal the whole body. Alphaland’s Aegle Medical Wellness Center boasts of such physicians. Our doctors have trained beyond their respective specialties to apply this skill and knowledge in looking at all the human organ systems and how they function as a whole. They utilize state-of-the-art diagnostic tests to reveal subtle abnormalities even before they become full-blown disease: minor elevations in insulin production to detect beginning diabetes mellitus, decrease in folic acid signifying developing hypertension, minute abnormalities in tumor markers to uncover possible cancer.

Joel Ferdinand Lopez, MD is a Holistic and Integrative Medical Doctor. He completed an Internal Medicine residency training in Chicago, Illinois after which he trained with alternative medical pioneers such as Dr. Gus Prosch of Birmingham, Alabama; Dr. Robert Willix of Boca Raton, Florida; Dr. Chiedu Nchekwube of Merrillville, Indiana; and Dr. Paul Lynn of San Francisco, California. Dr. Lopez now practices in the Philippines and incorporates nutrition, fitness, detoxification, homeopathy, bio-identical hormone therapy, and I.V. nutritional therapies in his clinical armamentarium. He is currently the medical director of Regenesis Medicine of the San Francisco Preventive Medical Group. He sits on the international committee of the American College for the Advancement of Medicine and the advisory board of the Orthomolecular Society. He helped put up the locally acclaimed Asian Institute of Longevity Medicine, and is now a practicing consultant at The Medical City’s Center for Wellness and Alternative Medicine and R3 Medica Health Institute.
Dr Joel believes in the value of supplementing for optimizing human function; not everything the body needs to maintain daily function at the cellular level can be provided by a person’s diet, no matter how balanced and healthy it is. He specializes in customizing micronutrient, mineral, and elemental supplements based on a person’s actual deficiencies and functional requirements. He is the country’s foremost authority in medical detoxification, having developed protocols for fatty liver, heart disease, diabetes, dementia, and even cancer. He melds the highly technological clinics of medicine with herbal supplements readily available in today’s household or apothecaries.
A notorious health buff, he spends most of his free time in the gym where he claims most of his ideas for medical protocols are churned out of his workouts. He loves making fashion statements of his lifestyle programs as only he can do them, gaining him popularity with the country’s social personalities and celebrities.

Ruby Ann Bermudez-Magpantay, MD had her fellowship in aesthetic and anti-ageing medicine at the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine in San Jose, California; became board-certified in anti-ageing and nutritional medicine at the Hertoghe Medical School in Belgium; and obtained her Master’s degree in Preventive, Anti-Ageing and Regenerative Medicine at Dresden International University in Germany. She was connected as practicing consultant with the Asian Institute of Longevity Medicine which later became the Royal Preventive Medical Clinic, a medical facility of Leading Biotechnologies, Inc. She is currently the medical director of MediEsthetique Anti-Ageing & Aesthetic Center.
Dra. Ruby is a dermatologic surgeon by profession and specializes in integrative practice of molecular and metabolic medicine in helping her clients achieve the goal of younger, healthful beauty from within. She is instrumental in developing the Asian protocol for a number of the therapeutic programs in the curriculum of Dresden University in Germany. Locally, she is a sought-after educator in the field of longevity medicine particularly in the use of bio-identical hormones for reversing the ravages of ageing on the skin. She helped operate the cell therapy division of Leading Biotechnologies, working with the top researchers in Germany.
As a self-acclaimed foodie, not to mention being married to one of the most dynamic chefs south of the metropolis, she uses this passion to develop healthy diets and scientific food preparation techniques to preserve nutritional value and minimize toxins and industrial hormones in common kitchen ingredients. A molecular gastronomy enthusiast, Dra. Ruby is an asset to Aegle when it comes to medical nutrition, being able to skillfully apply the science in a practical, lay-friendly manner. A hands-on mother of two beautiful children, her desire to share only the best lifestyle practices with her kids extends to all her patients, endearing her to her clients in a very familial atmosphere.
Your Medical Director

Benedict Francis Valdecañas, MD had his orthopaedic residency at the St. Luke’s Medical Center Institute of Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the Baptist Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He is trained in Hyperbaric Medicine at the Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. He holds Master’s degrees in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of the Philippines and Epidemiology from the Ben Taub Research Center, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He is a currently the President of the Philippine Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (POSSM), the Vice-President and Board Member of the ASEAN Society for Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy (ASSA), the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at Cardinal Santos Medical Center, and a faculty of the Philippine Center for Advanced Surgery (PCAS). He holds the position of Associate Professor with the European Council for Aging Research and Education (ECARE). In addition, he is a diplomate of the Philippine Board of Orthopaedics (PBO), a Fellow of both the Philippine Orthopaedic Association (POA) and the Philippine College of Surgeons (PCS). And lastly, he decided to focus on private practice and on regenerative medicine research in both hospital and clinical settings. He successfully established the LifeScience Center for Wellness & Preventive Medicine, a pioneering clinic in preventive health, lifestyle modification, and molecular medicine.
Dr Ben has brought the practice of preventive medicine back to the hospitals focusing on functional exercise to treat musculoskeletal diseases. Being both a clinician and a surgeon, he has made these two apparent extremes of practice meet in the middle through minimally invasive procedures, where he can increase a person’s regenerative potential through targeted cellular therapy. In the clinic, he makes use of the latest that molecular biology has to offer in optimizing health and human performance through customized micronutrient supplementation, personalized exercise programs, and careful attention to diet and nutrition. A pioneer in age management program development, he recommends what is best for the patient’s longevity in terms of maintaining regular exercise, correcting erroneous work habits, and diet modification.
As a varsity athlete since childhood, he put the Philippines on the triathlon map when he made time trials in Laguna, Phuket, and eventually in Kona as early as 1996. Still maintaining swimming, cycling, and running on a regular basis, although not necessarily together anymore, Dr. Ben desires to have all the patients he sees adopt this healthy lifestyle to prevent illness and disease.
