Cancer remains one of the most difficult management dilemmas a physician will ever be faced with in his or her career.  No other medical issue presents a more diverse challenge than a metastatic cancer that responds poorly to conventional modalities of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

According to a 2014 review, cancer diagnoses have reached an all-time high: approximately 39.6 percent of men and women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point during their lifetimes.  Based on a four-year study published in the same year, the number of people living beyond a cancer diagnosis reached nearly 14.5 million and is expected to rise to almost 19 million by 2024.

While the rise in cancer incidence was ushered in by industrialization and technology, the significant advances in medical developments and discoveries have also provided us physicians with new means of managing our patients in a more multidisciplinary approach.
